Meet Our Donors
Jane and Frank Craig establish a Charitable Remainder Unitrust
A Realization Post-Penn-Charter
I enlisted straightaway in the Army Air Corps after my graduation in 1943. It wasn’t until then that I realized how fundamentally sound my Penn Charter education was. Part of our Air Corps training was to go to Rochester Business Institute. The work seemed like 10th grade level for me. I suddenly realized I was at the top of the class all the time. I couldn’t quite fathom that I was that brilliant. (laughs) After the war, I went to the University of Delaware where I experienced the same thing. I seemed to be so far ahead of my peers. I attribute it all to Penn Charter. My peers had gone to schools that just didn’t offer the wonderful education I had.
My dad taught Latin and math at Penn Charter for 30 years. Of course, that saved a lot of money in tuition. I wouldn’t have been able to go otherwise. The fund my wife and I have established is in honor of him. My dad just lived and died for Penn Charter and I share that sentiment. Our gift will be an incentive for the best teachers to come to Penn Charter, which can’t help but keep the educational program strong. It’s what these teachers deserve.
”I seemed to be so far ahead of my peers.”
I would like to think that Penn Charter students will have the benefit that I have had to be ahead simply by virtue of an outstanding education. To allow one to reach and dream and make advancements like what’s happened in aviation since I started as a fighter pilot. That’s what makes me hopeful: aspiration.
Jane and Frank Craig OPC ’43 have established the Frank S. Craig Charitable Remainder Unitrust. The trust provides them a stream of income and, upon their deaths, establishes a fund in honor of Frank’s father to support teacher salaries, one of the campaign’s most important objectives.
